Fight a greedy corporation in games

EDIT (January 29th, 2023): Seems like we, the community, won!!! WoTC backed down and went with Creative Commons. What does it mean for the future of TTRPG? For my part, it means I’ll have trouble trusting WoTC again, I’ve already gone back to Pathfinder and I intend to stay with Paizo…

What does it mean for you this change of WoTC?

By now, everyone knows that WoTC (Wizards of The Coast – Pronounced “Whot’s ThSee” or something like that!) has been on a GameWorkshop’s move on their Dungeons and Dragons IP by an attack on the OGL 1.0a. (If you don’t know, then I can recommend this link to have all the latest information.)

In this case, I’d like to state where I stand:

  • I fully support Open source systems, the OGL1.0a almost created an open-source environment which got us VERY good content from people we’d never know existed otherwise.
  • I signed the Open Letter (see the above link or here).
  • I stand by #OpenDND
  • I stand by Paizo with their ORC Project

I have recently purchased (PDFs) five (5) of the core rulebooks of Pathfinder 2e and I’m not gleefully learning this sytem (I already knew how to play Pathfinder 1e, so…) Why did I purchase them when all the rules are freely available on Archives of Nethys? Have you seen the quality of Paizo‘s work? It’s superb! But I’d recommend you to support your favorite game creators if you don’t like Pathfinder’s system.

About Paizo: They make OGL-Free TTRPG content. The OGL 1.0a is there as a curtesy. It’s not going anywhere!!! Plus, while they have fantasy content (Pathfinder), they also have a very nice futuristic sci-fi content (Starfinder).

So here it is, my stand…long live Open-source TTRPG!!!
